The disappearance of the dialectic in ithaca, new york
i knew a guy named steve back in jersey,
who had pursued a course in marxist theory,
he had read so widely and deeply in Hegel;
that he had started to resemble a bagel.
Steve wasn't the kind of guy to throw bricks.
We all thought he did it to pick up chicks;
He didn't believe the world needed changing
Just as long as he got do his own damn thing.
Yeah, Steve was anything but a radical;
being red was just like going on sabbatical.
According to marx, the thing that is
starts losing its sheen, golly, gee whiz;
it gets old and stodgey and heavy on top
and starts to look more like a traffic cop.
The new comes along, waiting for a chance
to run the show and wear the pants.
Thesis, antithesis, synthesis, you get the deal,
a constant turning and returning of the wheel.
Revolution always seems to wait in the wings.
This, according to marx, is the nature of things.
Now when the old enjoys the view,
does this effect the birth of the new?
People in power refuse to step down,
leave no space for new kids in town.
What happens then is anyone's guess.
It all creates one big terrible mess.
Pry as you might to clear the stage,
you work yourself into one big rage.
Isn't it better just to hop on a bus
walk out the door and not make a fuss?
Now what about steve; was he left behind?
No, a worthy cause he happened to find,
he spends all his weekends at ecovillage,
contributing his share of useful tillage.
Who says you can't learn to be happy,
ask Steve; he probably an authority
on finding new ways to save the earth,
by adding a few dollars to his net worth.

Like an Owl exploding
In your life in your brain in your self
Like an Owl who know the devil
All night, all day if you listen, Like an Owl
Exploding in fire. We hear the questions rise
In terrible flame like the whistle of a crazy dog
Like the acid vomit of the fire of Hell
